About Movie Locations Map
Movie Locations Map plots real filming locations on a world map, so you can see where a film or series was shot and what else was filmed nearby. It is free, needs no account, and every fact on it traces back to an open source you can check.
What is on the map

Where the data comes from
Filming locations come from Wikidata, which records a link between a production and a place, and stores coordinates on the place itself. Wikidata content is released under CC0, which puts it in the public domain.
Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons. We link each image from Commons rather than copying it, and store the author and licence next to it so the credit shows wherever the photo appears. Licences vary from image to image and the one that applies is printed under the picture.
The map itself is drawn with MapLibre GL JS on vector tiles from OpenFreeMap, built with OpenMapTiles from OpenStreetMap data, which is licensed under the Open Database Licence.
What we do not do
- We do not guess. If a record has no coordinates, it is not on the map.
- We do not dress up a vague record as a precise one. Entries that name only a country are marked and drawn faded.
- We do not host film stills or posters. The photographs show the real places.
- We do not ask you to sign up, and we do not track you across the web.
Honest limits
This map is only as complete as the open data behind it. Many well-known productions have no recorded filming location at all, and some records point at a city when the shoot used one specific building in it. Coverage leans towards productions with detailed Wikipedia articles, which in practice means English-language and European cinema are better covered than other regions. Treat a missing title as missing data rather than proof that nothing was filmed there.
Corrections
Because the facts come from Wikidata, the most durable fix is to correct the record there; it will flow into this map at the next rebuild. For anything else, get in touch.
